FINE DETAILS OF SAINT GREGORY TAILORED SHIRT
The making process of our tailored shirts is the result of years spent searching for a quality capable to combine innovation and unconditional devotion to the traditional artisanal procedures. Another typical element of Neapolitan tailoring, considered secondary only to the jacket, the tailored shirt requires a high level of manufacturing and extreme care in every step. Each one of our shirts is finished through 8 meticulous handmade steps that guarantee an exclusive quality and durability over time: buttonholes, collar, bartack, armhole, mouche, buttons, placket and shoulder, every shirt is made following the traditional methods.
Lastly, we only use the best Italian fabrics and high-quality raw material. A Saint Gregory shirt is a guarantee of perfect fit. Also in this case the customer is guided through the making of a unique piece thanks to the selection of fabrics, models, cuffs, collars and, last but not least, the choice of the buttons.
THE TRUE ESSENCE OF THE NEAPOLITAN JACKET
If the most famous and old tradition lead to English tailoring, the Neapolitan tradition brought its contribution, making a revolution that will led to the birth of its own style, with its peculiarities, recognizable at the first sight and certainly unique all over the world. Neapolitan tailors were able to reinvent shapes, weights, colors of jackets in order to adapt them to a totally different city and to a more “irregular” and “chaotic” environment. Neapolitan tailoring removed all the unnecessary material, focusing on a more natural fitting, the jacket is “unconstructed” in order to keep the flexuosity and lightness. All these characteristics were born to keep room for movement, supporting the typical gesturality of Neapolitan people, and they remained unchanged till nowadays: the sleeve “a mappina”, which means “mop” in Neapolitan dialect, in other words a worn-looking sleeve that forms a curl at the top, that can only be made by hand and then sewn “a camicia” with the cloth applied below the shoulder as normally done with shirts, so that it will fit as a second skin. Among the singularities of the Neapolitan tailoring we underline the dart till the bottom, the double stitching, the patch pockets that have the shape of a particular pot, and pride of all the ancient master tailors the fully unlined or half lined jacket that reveal their real patient work, the clean internal seams, from where you can see that the jacket is well finished inside and outside: the hems, the bottom, and the edge obtained from the offcuts of lining used to cover the internal darts.
Naples is not only a capital of taste, but also of haute couture and artisan excellence.
